Some House Rules

The goal of The Players is for all members and their guests to relax and enjoy themselves. However, we are a private club, and the membership has agreed to some rules and guidelines which make being at the club pleasant for everyone concerned. Described below are some of these rules which must be followed by all members and their guests.

Very important: if a member hosts an event at The Players, you must forewarn your guests about these rules to ensure that they adhere to them. These include tipping employees, appropriate attire and behavior. Thank you. The Managing Committee

No Tipping, Please

With the large number of members as well as guests coming to events and dinner in our club, it seems the right time to remind everyone of a hard and fast rule of The Players: no tipping. Never. This applies both to members as well as guests of the club.

Like many clubs, we consider our staff a part of the club. In December we ask everyone to give what they think is right so that we can give the wait staff an appropriate Christmas gift to thank them for their service throughout the year.

But during the year we are not allowed to tip anyone. That goes for all of us and our guests. That means that you need to remind your guests that we are a “no tipping” club. By doing so you save everyone from any possible embarrassment.

Appropriate Attire

While The Players does not require gentleman to wear ties and jackets, we nonetheless do not consider it appropriate to wear tee-shirts and sneakers in the club. We ask all members to comply with the following dress code as should their guests:

Gentlemen must wear a collared shirt and slacks.

A turtleneck or banded-collared shirt is permitted only with a jacket.

Gentlemen are encouraged, though not required, to wear a jacket, or tie and jacket, to all club events.

“Business casual” is the guideline for our female members. This means no sneakers, no spandex, Lycra or similar clothing.

Gentlemen and Ladies should also remember that athletic attire is not permitted in the club.

Some General Rules of Behavior

Unlike many private clubs, The Players counts a large number of well known people among its membership. When a member is at the club, he or she is there to relax and enjoy the company of friends and colleagues. So, please, none of the following will be tolerated by the club, either on the part of members or guests:
No asking for autographs, photographs or remembrances of any kind;
No presenting of scripts, manuscripts or other work-related items -- The Players is a social club, so overt discussions of work are not permitted;
Remember that The Grill Room is available only to members and guests accompanied by members -- please tell guests not to stand at the bar and prevent members from obtaining their much-needed libations.
